Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS) is a well-known process modeling language. BPEL4WS can be used to model business process as syntax base composition of web services. Many process modeling tools e.g. MS Biz Talk Server, IBM Web Sphere, Vitria's Business Ware and BEA Web Logic support BPEL process modeling and can export BPEL processes as web services. These BPEL processes which are exported as web services can be composed with other web services to perform some complex business tasks. But composition of these web services is still static and based on syntactical interface exposed by these web services. Such static composition of business processes as web services do not allow to automate business process in a machine understandable way. On the other hand OWL-S, OWL ontology for semantic web services can be used to dynamically discover, invoke and compose web services on the fly. Therefore instead of exporting the BPEL processes to syntax base web services (WSDL services), mapping the BPEL processes to semantic web services (OWL-S) can help to automate business process. In this work we shall discuss such a mapping strategy and a prototype mapping tool (BPEL4WS 2 OWL-S Mapping Tool V1.1) that can be used to map BPEL4WS processes to semantic web services (OWL-S suite of ontologies).
